Report from SIR: Cryotherapy proves long-term effectiveness in primary renal cancer
March/26/2008
Results from two clinical trials demonstrate that cryoablation of renal cell carcinomas is effective at least a year after treatment in nearly all patients with lesions 4 cm or smaller. The studies suggest that cryotherapy could serve as an alternative to surgery.
RFA of chondroblastomas offers efficacious alternative to surgery
February/05/2008
Evidence from the largest study of its kind to date suggests that percutaneous CT-guided radiofrequency ablation is a safe and effective alternative to open surgery in selected cases of chondroblastomas, according to New York University researchers.

MR-guided laser therapy proves its worth in liver cancer mets
September/01/2007
We have conducted a large-scale 14-year study that found laser ablation with MR guidance is very effective in the treatment of primary and metastatic liver tumors. We presented data from 1394 patients with 3725 lesions at the 2007 European Congress of Radiology. We have since ablated a total of 5041 lesions in 1954 patients. The two largest patient groups suffered from colorectal liver metastases and breast cancer liver metastases.

April/09/2007
Data in the April issue of Radiology validate radiofrequency ablation as a safe and effective treatment alternative for inoperable patients with lung cancer. The study, the largest and longest to date, also suggests RFA provides better survival and disease control in these patients than does external-beam radiotherapy.
High-intensity focused ultrasound use widens in research, practice
April/01/2007
The use of high-intensity focused ultrasound for various therapeutic applications has continued to grow since Lynn et al first proposed it in 1942.1 Advances in medical imaging technology in the last two decades have led to its widespread use in both research and clinical practice for the treatment of benign and malignant tumors, hemostasis, uterine fibroids, and other conditions.
