Ronald Arenson, M.D., chairman of radiology at the University of California, San Francisco, was the keynote speaker during the opening session Thursday. He highlighted the history of SIIM and the evolution of computer applications in radiology. Arenson argued that distributed systems of information management are better for radiology than centralized systems and urged attendees to insist that vendors adhere to interoperability profiles established by the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise initiative.
