Stereotaxis releases IT platform
A data management platform developed by Stereotaxis for the remote viewing and recording of interventional procedures is on the market. The company, a pioneer in magnetically guided catheterization, said its Odyssey Cinema will store and replay procedures either in part or in their entirety. These playbacks will serve as a means for expanded clinical collaboration, remote consultation, and training.
PerkinElmer makes Asian play
Seeking to extend its markets to Asia, PerkinElmer will exhibit for the first time its digital x-ray detectors in China. The conference, slated to begin next week in Shanghai, is focused on nondestructive testing, . but PerkinElmer''s decision to exhibit its detectors therein China signals a shift in strategy toward Asian markets, which that will include diagnostic and therapeutic medical imaging, according to a spokesperson for the company. PerkinElmer The company has delivered more than 15,000 amorphous silicon-based x-ray detectors worldwide.
Varian business booms
Bucking a trend in the general radiology industry, Varian Medical Systems reported growth in revenues, net orders, backlog, and earnings during the fourth quarter of fiscal 2008. Net earnings rose 10% to $0.68 per diluted share from $0.62 in the year-earlier quarter. Net earnings for fiscal year 2008 climbed to $2.31 per diluted share, up 24% percent from $1.86 in fiscal 2007. Revenues in 4Q grew 15% to $593 million, while fiscal year 2008 revenues grew 18% to $2.1 billion. Net orders for the quarter rose 15% in the fourth quarter and fiscal year, rising to $725 million in 4Q and to $2.3 billion in fiscal 2008. Oncology Systems'' fourth- quarter revenues totaled $483 million, up 13% from the same period in the last fiscal year. They were up 16% to $1.7 billion in fiscal 2008. The x-ray products business reached $83 million in the fourth quarter, up 25%, and $305 million in the fiscal year, up 19%.
Varian installs 1000th Onon-Board board Imagerimager
The 1000th image-guidance system for targeting radiotherapy administered with Varian Medical Systems accelerators has been installed at Kantonsspital in Lucerne, Switzerland. The company's robotic Xx-ray device, dubbed the On-Board Imager, is a mounted on a medical linear accelerator,. It generating generates high- quality images that are used to precisely position cancer patients and time radiation exposure to cancel out movement due to respiration.
Lantheus wins Premier contract
Lantheus Medical Imaging has signed a three-year sole-source contract to provide its ultrasound contrast agent Definity to Premier's more than 1,600 U.S. hospitals and other healthcare sites. Premier is one of the nation''s largest healthcare group purchasing organizations. The new agreement, which takes effect Dec. 1, is the second consecutive sole-source agreement with Premier to supply Definity.
Digirad names Clyde director
New top Digirad executive Todd P. Clyde has been named to its Board board of Directorsdirectors. Clyde was appointed president and CEO earlier in the week following the resignation of Mark Casner from these postsitions, as well as director and the board. The number of board directors remains unchanged at six.
