GE to add compact MRs to portfolio
GE Healthcare plans to expand its MR offerings with the purchase of dedicated extremity product lines from ONI Medical Systems. If the deal goes through, ONI’s two high-field scanners, the MSK Extreme 1.0T and the MSK Extreme 1.5T, will join the GE portfolio. Each is very compact as they are designed to allow only the joint of the patient inside the magnetic field. About 175 of the ONI scanners have been installed worldwide, according to GE. Accompanying the scanners to GE will be the R&D team that stands behind them, led by Dr. Peter Roemer, who this year won the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine’s Gold Medal.
