Split-level radiology services
The main radiology department at Vienna General Hospital is divided into five subdepartments:
- osteoradiology
- neuroradiology
- angiography and interventional radiology
- imaging for conservative treatment/management
- imaging for surgery
Imaging equipment, preparation rooms, reporting areas, and offices related to each subdepartment are spread over three separate floors (levels six to eight). The department is staffed by 85 radiologists and 250 radiographers. Radiological workflow is managed on a Siemens RIS Magic SAS, which is connected to the Impax PACS.
Most modalities in radiology are connected to the PACS, but not all. The connected equipment includes: CT (5), MRI (4), digital luminescence radiography (6), angiography (5), computed radiography (6), direct digital radiography (1), and digital mammography (1).
Another CT scanner and three more CR units linked to the PACS can be found in the emergency department, and an additional CT, MRI, and CR unit in radiotherapy. The radiotherapy department also has four portal imaging machines, a Helax (for 3D treatment planning), and an ultrasound scanner hooked up to the network.
