Virtual Tour PACS in Vienna General Hospital

Credit: R.-M. Schuster/Agfa

Clinical reports and images can be viewed in split-screen format on PCs.

Web-based access

The Web server allows 200 Web clients to review clinical images on PC monitors. These are located in the departments of surgery, oncology, radiotherapy, angiography, internal medicine, and emergency. Extension of the PACS to all 70 or 80 clinical departments and wards throughout the hospital would require purchase of another 2000 or 3000 PC monitors for image review.

Comments:

"For me, it would be sufficient for the entire radiology department to be equipped with PACS, and for workstations to be put in those rooms where clinical meetings take place, in the emergency room, and in operating theatres. It is not absolutely necessary that every department, every physician, has access to PACS."
Prof. Dr. Viktor Metz, professor of radiology, Vienna General Hospital
