April 22 to 23, 2010
2010 CAR International Guidelines Symposium - Pooling International Knowledge on Appropriateness in Diagnostic Imaging

Location: Montréal, Québec, Canada

Description: Imaging Guidelines (aka appropriateness criteria) are an important part of the solution to achieving appropriateness in imaging care. When we continue to expand and fine-tune appropriateness in imaging care, we by extension support improved management of imaging resources, more appropriate accessibility, responsiveness, quality of imaging care, and overall sustainability and accountability of health care systems. The Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR) has been promoting the use of evidence based guidelines to support appropriate use of imaging services in Canada. Numerous countries are similarly active in guidelines implementation. There is much to be learned from a sharing of international knowledge and experience. The CAR’s international guidelines symposium will facilitate an international dialogue which can improve appropriateness of imaging care, more specifically through the creation and implementation of imaging referral guidelines that are effectively applied to the varying contexts (regional, national and global) in which health care is provided.
