Scope of Position

?Reporting in a line capacity to the senior manager, radiology computing and information sciences, the incumbent is responsible for leading the operational, fiscal, and human resources for the picture archiving and communication system (PACS). Additionally, this individual will act as a liaison in digital imaging initiatives within the department and other departments.

?Receiving general direction from partners corporate director of medical imaging, the individual is responsible for overseeing and coordinating existing and participation in new PACS and digital imaging initiatives. Responsible for operating and capital budget requests for medical imaging equipment in conjunction with senior manager, radiology computing and information sciences, and administrative director of radiology.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

?Responsible for day-to-day operation of PACS equipment including image workflow, archiving, autorouting, and prefetching and other related activities. Works closely with unit operations managers to ensure timely and complete capture of DICOM digital image data into the PACS system as well as network transmission, RIS validation, and exceptions handling.

?Investigates, identifies, and prepares proposals to solve specific operational problems within all clinical operational areas, working closely with unit operations managers and division heads as well as involving the next level of administration as appropriate.

?Works closely with the senior manager of radiology computing and information sciences, in the development of operating standards, policies, and procedures. Reviews feedback from customers, compiles and analyzes support data, and recommends procedural and educational changes as appropriate.

?Works closely with radiology's quality management personnel to identify and design future needs and efficient workflow processes, which include further integration into operations.

?Works closely with partners corporate manager, medical imaging, to oversee and coordinate strategic planning for medical imaging initiatives.

?Acts as liaison between radiology and other departments related to medical imaging initiatives and procedures and assisting with existing or new medical imaging endeavors.

?Responsible for budget preparation and monitoring of the operating budget. Works in cooperation with corporate director of medical imaging and administrative director of MGH radiology, identifying present and future needs for equipment installation.

?Oversees activities of vendors in all phases of installation and implementation of new systems.

?Interviews, hires, orients, and manages one to three clinical medical imaging personnel.

?Prepares reports for administration on all aspects of medical imaging operations as appropriate or directed.

?Attends and participates in departmental/hospital meetings. Attends seminars and training sessions necessary to maintain appropriate level of professional competence.

?Ensures all department, hospital, and JCAHO guidelines are met for operation.

?Performs other functions as required and/or assigned.

Qualifications

The position requires four or more years of related experience in line management and healthcare project management in a large and decentralized teaching hospital setting.

Bachelor's degree in related healthcare discipline or information systems discipline required. Masters degree in related field strongly preferred.

Excellent written/oral communication skills required. Must be able to work effectively with diverse groups of people.

Ability to work well under pressure and on concurrent, multidisciplinary projects.

Proficiency in office automation systems (i.e., Windows 95/98) required. Familiarity with specific radiology applications such as IDXRad, and Internet
