Video: Eliot Siegel, MD: The Future of PACS and Informatics

Article

The PACS of the future will be far smarter and incorporate clinical and business analytics to allow radiologists to be more efficient, says Eliot Siegel, MD.

ORLANDO, FL - The PACS of the future will be “significantly smarter,” taking advantage of artificial intelligence-like systems and providing a greater degree of integration with other systems. That’s according to Eliot Siegel, MD, FSIIM, professor and vice chair of radiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and chief of imaging at the VA Maryland Health Care System, who spoke at SIIM 2012.

Siegel talked with Diagnostic Imaging at the conference about his vision for the future of PACS. In the next several years, he says, the systems will evolve to include what he called clinical analytics as well as business analytics - information from the electronic medical record that can provide greater context and efficiency for diagnostic radiologists.
