In early December, President Barack Obama’s throat had already been sore for several weeks. His unscheduled visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center quickly made breaking news, and White House staffers “were kept up to speed” on the President’s condition, according to CNN. After an ear, nose, and throat specialist conducted a fiber optic exam, which revealed soft tissue swelling in the posterior throat, a CT scan was ordered.

The CT scan was normal; President Obama was experiencing acid reflux.

So let’s talk about quality of care and appropriate use of imaging.
