Colonoscopy

Using CT colonography for screening of colorectal cancer among Medicare patients is cost-effective.

Using PET-CT compared with CT before surgery for potentially resectable liver metastases from colorectal cancer may not significantly alter surgical management.

CHICAGO — CT colonography’s path to reimbursement has been a complicated process, standing as a reminder for radiologists to get involved in political advocacy.

Reps. Danny Davis (D, Ill.) and Ralph Hall (R, Texas) introduced the CT Colonography Screening for Colorectal Cancer Act of 2012 on the heels of data showing CTC's effectiveness in seniors.

Better image post-processing enables simplified bowel preparation with no effect on virtual colonoscopy image quality, an Italian team of radiologists found in a preliminary study published in La Radiologia Medica.

The software assists radiologists during reviews of CT colonography (CTC, a.k.a. virtual colonoscopy) images by automatically highlighting potential colorectal polyps, which are possible precursors to colorectal cancer.

Medicsight now has FDA 510(k) clearance to market ColonCAD, a computer-aided detection system to aid in CT colonography.
