Canvas Visual Communications has developed a ceiling-mounted microphone that allows videoconferencing participants to roam freely around a room during videoconferencing sessions.
Called AudioScience, the microphone has a usable pickup range of a 28-foot half-circle, according to the Montreal-based company. For large groups, several AudioScience microphones can be combined into one seamless configuration. The microphone's suggested retail price of $1995 (Canadian) and $1495 (U.S.) includes an on-site evaluation, suggested configuration, and all required cabling.
In other news, Canvas announced that it would sell more than $1.2 million of its PC Point Freshman units to videoconferencing vendor Vidcom, which will integrate the technology with its desktop units. PC Point Freshman allows a PC to function as a desktop videoconferencing unit.
