COVID-19 and CT Scans: The Global Backlog, Rebound, and Implications

Elad Walach, Aidoc chief executive officer, discusses recent research into global CT imaging volume fluctuations and how providers should view that data.

CT imaging volumes are on the rebound globally, with Europe staying a week or two ahead of the United States. According to recently gathered and analyzed data, practices in the United States have already bounced back to 95 percent-to-97 percent of their pre-COVID-19 levels, and parts of Europe have already outpaced their pre-pandemic volumes. Some of the most significant changes in volume have been seen with stroke and pulmonary embolism images.

Diagnostic Imaging spoke with Elad Walach, chief executive officer of artificial intelligence solutions company Aidoc, about the company’s recent analysis of the worldwide fluctuations of CT scan volume during the COVID-19 outbreak. Walach put the findings into context and shared how providers should view it as the pandemic continues.
