The Food and Drug Administration has granted 510(k) clearance to Lunar of Madison, WI, for its PIXI peripheral bone densitometer (SCAN 4/16/97). The system, designed for scanning the heel and forearm, marks Lunar's entry into the peripheral densitometry segment. PIXI uses dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry and is expected to be priced in the low $30,000 range.
