Poll: MRI in the Emergency Department?

Article

A Rhode Island hospital is adding an MRI to the emergency department. Is MRI a good diagnostic tool or not necessary on an emergency basis?

Rhode Island Hospital added an MRI unit to the emergency department, making it one of only a few hospitals in the country to make MRI available in the ED.

Those in favor of emergency MRI availability say it can be a useful diagnostic tool. But critics argue its not a test needed on an emergency basis and can lead to costly, defensive medicine.
