Radiology Managers Don't Expect Adequate Reimbursement

Article

Radiology managers are still skeptical about receiving adequate reimbursement from Medicare.

Confidence is still low among radiology managers and imaging directors that their facilities will receive adequate reimbursement from Medicare for diagnostic and interventional imaging.

The latest Medical Imaging Confidence Index (MICI) evaluated 133 imaging directors/managers of hospitals on their outlooks of medical imaging trends for the fourth quarter of 2014. The issue with the least confidence, reimbursement, was consistently the biggest concern amoung radiology managers in 2014. In fact, this time last year, reimbursement was still a hot button.

Managers had similar fourth quarter outlooks as they did third quarter: neutral opinions about growth, high confidence that operating and staff costs will remain the same, low confidence in access to capital for imaging equipment and IT, and high confidence in maintaining/growing as a profit center.

Here are the full results for the fourth quarter of 2014:

Medical Imaging Confidence Index (MICI) was co-developed by AHRA: The Association for Medical Imaging Management and The MarkeTech Group, owner of the imagePRO panel, launched in 2008. MICI data rely on the feedback of a statistical cohort of respondents from the imagePRO panel that accurately represent the US market hospital market by bedsize and geographic areas.
