Varian Associates of Palo Alto, CA, has beefed up its presence in Japan by forming a new subsidiary, Varian Japan KK, to market its instrumentation, semiconductor, and medical imaging products. Varian Japan replaces Varian Japan Ltd., a U.S. company with a branch office in Japan, which mostly handled sales of Varian's analytical and scientific instruments. The new subsidiary will handle Varian's x-ray tube business, while the company's cancer-therapy products will continue to be handled by a separate joint venture and Varian's distributor.
