Kaiser Permanente has selected Acuson of Mountain View, CA, to be its exclusive provider of radiology and vascular ultrasound scanners to its 323 facilities. The HMO will purchase Sequoia, Aspen, and 128XP scanners to complement its installed base of 155 128XP systems. Valued at $7 million per year, the two-year sole-source deal also includes two optional one-year extensions. Kaiser officials cited the release of Native Tissue Harmonic Imaging, a new application for difficult-to-image patients (SCAN 8/6/97), as a key factor in deciding to choose Acuson.
