Briana Bio-Tech of Edmonton, Alberta, and Qualia Computing of Beavercreek, OH, have completed an agreement in which Qualia has granted licensing rights to Briana for its Second Look computer-aided diagnosis mammography workstation (SCAN 6/25/97). Under the agreement, Briana has paid US$800,000 to Qualia and has committed to pay an additional $3.4 million in installments over the next 18 months in exchange for exclusive worldwide rights to Second Look and a 30% equity stake in Qualia. Qualia will also receive royalties on sales of Second Look systems.
Briana plans to show a commercial prototype of Second Look at the upcoming Radiological Society of North America meeting, and begin shipments to European and Asian markets in the second half of 1998.
