Italy-based imaging vendor Esaote has developed a module for use on diagnostic ultrasound scanners that exploits the characteristics of second-generation contrast media. The module, called Contrast Tuned Imaging, supports real-time imaging of injected microbubbles, extending the longevity of these agents through the implementation of a low mechanical index. Selective automatic tuning adjusts the ultrasound beam to deliver the optimal signal, according to the company, which claims the module can improve contrast-enhanced cardiac, vascular, and small parts applications.
