Hamilton Scientific, a developer of Internet-based medical applications, has purchased the assets of Pontis Medical, a developer of remote access solutions for the healthcare industry. Pontis created the eM-Net system (now called MedFreedom), which is designed to connect hospitals, imaging centers, and other healthcare facilities with affiliated physicians via the Internet. Hamilton intends to make MedFreedom the platform for communication and electronic transactions between physicians and the institutions they work with. Hamilton's products include myPatientCharts.com and Duet, which will be available to all physicians participating on the MedFreedom network. myPatientCharts is an XML- and Java-based application that allows the secure exchange of patient information over the Internet, while Duet is a messaging application.
