HealthCenter Internet Services, a healthcare network provider, has joined forces with Compaq to develop and launch PACS on-demand. The service is designed to provide archival solutions on a per use basis to hospitals and medical imaging facilities. Through the service, HealthCenter will deliver online imaging storage and backup without the need for capital purchases or additional staffing. Through its relationship with Compaq, the company is deploying a network of secure regional data archiving centers designed to manage and deliver terabytes of medical images in near-real-time via optical storage area networks.
