Image Systems halts acquisition of Nortech

Monitor vendor Image Systems has withdrawn its letter of intent to purchase the Imaging Systems division of Nortech Systems. The Minnetonka, MN-based firm said the two companies could not come to an agreement during the due diligence process on how to address the existing Nortech warranty liability on previously shipped products.

Image Systems has been designing and manufacturing high-resolution displays since 1988; currently about 80% of the company’s business is in medical imaging. Its OEM customers include GE, Toshiba, and Marconi; other customers include DR Systems, Kodak/Cemax-Icon, and IBM (for DIN-PACS).

Image Systems and Nortech, located in Plymouth, MN, have a long history together. Both originally began as divisions of Cassette Powered Typewriters, which is no longer in business. They became competitors in the last few years when Nortech first entered the medical market.
