ISG Technologies this week announced the formation of an alliance of companies to develop standards for the image-guided surgery market.

The Mississauga, Ontario, company said that the Surgical Navigation Network was intended to develop standards that will both help surgeons use instruments developed by different companies, and help image-guided surgery companies develop and sell systems. ISG unveiled the network at the International Congress of Neurosurgeons meeting in Amsterdam.

In other ISG news, the company received 510(k) clearance from the Food and Drug Administration for spinal applications of its Viewing Wand image-guided surgery workstation. ISG competitor Picker International also received 510(k) clearance for spinal use of its ViewPoint workstation last month.
