MR manufacturers agree that clinical sites considering the purchase of a high-performance scanner are now seriously examining 3T systems alongside 1.5T scanners--and choosing 3T, if their budgets permit. With that realization, Siemens Medical Solutions has cut an agreement to collaborate with the Biomedical Imaging Technology Center (BITC) at Emory University to develop new clinical MR applications. Using its new Magnetom Trio 3T scanner, Siemens and BITC are preparing to launch projects aimed at advancing the physics and chemistry of 3T MR, as well as enhancing the hardware and software of 3T technology. The whole-body scanner will be focused on certain advanced clinical applications, including cardiovascular pathologies, musculoskeletal diseases, venous tumors, and anatomic and functional aspects of the brain.
