The Internet initiative is an outgrowth of Siemens e.Health group, created earlier this year to electronically enable Siemens' healthcare businesses and to create new business opportunities in disease and health management. The initiative includes the $2.1 million purchase of Shared Medical Systems (SCAN, 5/10/00), a provider of healthcare information systems and solutions.
