The new ultrasound scanner jointly developed by Diasonics Ultrasound of Santa Clara, CA, and its subsidiary Vingmed Sound of Horten, Norway, has received 510(k) clearance from the Food and Drug Administration. System V Elite is designed to be a multipurpose premium scanner appropriate for both cardiology and radiology applications, with a new all-digital architecture (SCAN 3/19/97). About 100 System V Elite scanners have been installed outside the U.S., and U.S. shipments are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of this year.
