Siemens is already getting repeat business with the Axiom Artis dFC Magnetic Navigation System. Baptist Heart and Vascular Institute at Central Baptist Hospital was the first to buy the system, codeveloped by Siemens and Stereotaxis, and the institute is the first to buy a second. The new one will be devoted to procedures in the interventional cardiology department, while the first, purchased in early 2003, remains dedicated to the hospital's electrophysiology department. The Magnetic Navigation System uses computer-controlled permanent magnets external to the body to orient the magnetic tip of specially designed catheters and guidewires.
