Add ultrasound vendor Advanced Technology Laboratories to thelist of medical imaging vendors celebrating improved financialresults. The Bothell, WA, company said last week that revenueshad increased almost 8% for its second quarter (end-June), largelyon the synergies achieved from its merger with Interspec lastyear (SCAN 2/16/94).
ATL had revenues of $91.3 million for the quarter, compared torevenues of $84.8 million in the same period the year before.ATL's net income for the most recent quarter was $836,000, comparedto a loss of $9.9 million in the second quarter of 1994. Thatfigure included costs related to ATL's acquisition of Interspec.
With the results, ATL posted its first net profit since the firstquarter of 1994. The company posted operating profits in the firstquarter of 1995 and the fourth quarter of 1994, but its net resultswere dragged down by nonrecurring charges related to the Interspecpurchase.
ATL's improvement is due to the integration of its distributionchannels with Interspec's mid-range product line, according toATL spokesperson Anne Bugge. ATL's premium HDI 3000 scanner isshowing momentum worldwide, Bugge said, and the company has shippedwell over 300 systems.
