Dr. Susan Alpert, director of the Office of Device Evaluation in the Food and Drug Administrations Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH), has been appointed director for food safety in the agencys Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition. Alpert joined the FDA in 1987, and has served as director of the Office of Device Evaluation in the CDRH since 1993. Dr. David Feigal, who was appointed director of the CDRH in May (SCAN 5/26/99), will act as interim replacement for Alpert until a permanent replacement is found. Alpert will begin her new duties October 25.
