Clarification

Article

In an article entitled “New PET crystal promises faster scans, better images” (SCAN 10/13/04), we identified a problem in the manufacture of a promising new PET crystal, called the BrilLanCe 380. We stated that “a few bugs in its manufacture still have to be worked out. The biggest is a tendency for the crystal to break.” The developer and manufacturer of this crystal, Saint Gobain Crystals, wishes to emphasize that once encapsulated in a finished detector, there is no problem or issue regarding “breakage” of the BrilLanCe crystal and that the finished detectors are mechanically robust.
