Elscint has begun shippingits Apex SPX CardiaL gamma camera after the system received Foodand Drug Administration marketing clearance in February. Elscint,of Hackensack, NJ, displayed the camera at the American Collegeof Cardiology meeting in Atlanta last month.

CardiaL is a fixed 90º-angle dual-head camera designedspecifically for cardiac imaging. The unit's heads swivel outward,allowing clinicians to perform supine SPECT imaging and then uprightstress testing immediately afterward.

CardiaL was introduced at the Society of Nuclear Medicine meetinglast year (SCAN 6/30/93). The system will be Elscint's main cardiacgamma camera. There are two installations of CardiaL and six moresystems on order, according to the company.
