MRI vendor Fonar of Melville, NY, got a boost in its efforts to drum up sales for its Quad line of MRI scanners with $3 million in new orders for Quad 12000, the companys 0.6-tesla magnet. Fonar will install Quad scanners at an outpatient facility in Texas and a hospital in Spain.
In addition to the Quad sales, Fonar announced earlier this month that it has increased its manufacturing, R&D, and warehouse space with the expectation of increased Quad 7000 and Quad 12000 sales. The expansion will boost the companys production capability by 50%. Fonar will use the additional facilities in part to continue development of OR-360, a room-sized magnet that will allow physicians to operate with MR guidance (SCAN 3/4/98). Fonar has completed a working prototype of the device.
