Multimodality vendor GE Medical Systems and Agfa-Gevaert have joined forces in an alliance for sales of computed radiography systems, the companies announced this month. The three-year agreement stipulates that Waukesha, WI-based GE will market, sell, and service Agfa Diagnostic Center (ADC) Compact and Solo CR systems under the GE label worldwide. Both systems feature Agfa’s Musica image processing software.

With access to GE’s large sales force and widespread installed base of x-ray systems, the deal boosts Agfa’s reach into markets around the world and gives it an opportunity to expand its CR business, according to the Mortsel, Belgium-based company.

GE moves closer to its goal of providing its customers with tools to transition into a completely digital environment. Agfa replaces Fuji Medical Systems USA as GE’s CR supplier. Fuji had signed a similar deal with GE in 1995 (SCAN 8/30/95). At the time, the agreement represented Fuji’s first OEM deal for its CR readers.
