GE Medical Systems will soon begin marketing software that includes a new osteoporosis measurement called hip axis length (HAL). The clinical index may improve physicians' ability to predict the risk of osteoporotic hip fracture. Called Advanced Hip Assessment, the product has cleared the FDA and will be marketed on the Prodigy Vision bone densitometer.
