General Scanning unveils laser x-ray film digitizer

The near-monopoly that Lumisys enjoys in the x-ray film laser digitizer market may be about to change with the release of LD2200, a new laser digitizer introduced by General Scanning of Watertown, MA. The digitizer, which was shown in the booth of PACS and teleradiology firm Medweb at the American Telemedicine Association meeting last month, utilizes solid-state components and can digitize a 14 x 17 inch, 2K x 2.5K film in 10 seconds, according to General Scanning.

LD2200 comes in pedestal or wall-mounted versions and has received Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance. In addition to its distributor relationship with Medweb, General Scanning is looking to land other PACS and teleradiology OEM clients for the product.
