ISG Technologies of Mississauga, Ontario, has hired former Siemens executive Reinhard Schmidt as president and general manager of its new image-guided surgery company, Surgical Navigation Specialists. Schmidt headed Siemens’ Healthcare Services division, which included the Iselin, NJ, company’s PACS operations.

In his new role, Schmidt will oversee the operations of Surgical Navigation Specialists, a joint-venture company formed this year between ISG and optics firm Carl Zeiss. The company will produce and market plug-and-play image-guided surgery software based on Windows NT. Software developed by the division will be provided to the Surgical Navigation Network, a group of medical equipment companies.
