Procom Technology, a provider of network attached storage (NAS) solutions, has added a CD/DVD-ROM device that combines high-capacity storage and accelerated performance. DataFORCE 800 provides up to 2 terabytes of RAID-5 protected storage and 220 times faster data access than optical media, according to the Irvine, CA, company. The company has begun shipping the storage appliance, which retails for $13,000. Supporting Windows, Linux, Macintosh, Unix, and Novell NetWare, the new product provides network users with cross-platform access and file sharing of thousands of CDs or hundreds of DVDs. Additional CDs and DVDs can be mounted under a single Windows drive letter.
