Picker International is planning to compete for the Malcolm BaldrigeNational Quality Award, according to spokesperson Mike Peterson.The award was won for the first time by a medical imaging companywhen ADAC Laboratories took the prize in the manufacturing categoryin October (SCAN 10/23/96).
Picker has had a total quality management process in placesince 1990, and decided to compete for the Malcolm Baldrige awardearlier this year by implementing a multiyear program of self-assessmentsand quality improvement, Peterson said. The Cleveland companyannounced its intentions in its annual report, published lastmonth. Picker hopes to apply for the award in four to five years.
