The Securities and Exchange Commission has issued an "order directing private investigation and designating officers to take testimony" regarding HealthSouth. The company, a provider of diagnostic imaging, outpatient surgery, and rehabilitative healthcare services, was notified in September that it was the subject of an SEC probe. The formal order of investigation indicates that the probe has taken on a more intense focus. Company executives said HealthSouth is cooperating fully with the SEC.
