The first commercial installation of Siemens’ hybrid PET/CT scanner, called biograph, has been completed at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan. A prototype of the biomolecular imager has been operating at the University of Pittsburgh for nearly three years, and the commercial model was introduced in November 2000. The system combines a dedicated positron camera, Ecat Exact HR+, and the Somatom Emotion multislice CT scanner. A spiral CT followed immediately by a PET scan provides comprehensive and accurate diagnostic information quickly and efficiently.
