Toshiba America Medical Systemslast month unveiled its PowerPace upgrade for the vendor's SSA-270Aand SSH-140A ultrasound scanners. PowerPace includes ColorAngio,Toshiba's version of amplitude-based power Doppler imaging, and3-D Color Perspective, a 3-D color display that shows the directionof blood flow and varying vessel depths. The upgrade also featuresOB Advisor, an on-board obstetrics data management package. Thelist price of the package is $22,500.

Sonographers are still evaluating the clinical utility of power-modeDoppler, but detection of early infarcts in renal transplantsis an early application, according to Phil Smith, vice presidentof ultrasound business operations.
