Belfast City Hospital in Ireland has contracted with Varian Medical Systems to obtain radiotherapy equipment and services for its new cancer center. The hospital plans to obtain advanced forms of radiotherapy, including intensity-modulated radiation therapy. About $9 million in equipment will be delivered to the hospital beginning in November 2004. The contract will provide an additional $12 million in services and certain software upgrades over a 12-year period beginning January 2006, when the center is scheduled to open.
