Varian Medical Systems on Oct. 20 unveiled Trilogy, an image-guided radiation therapy system at the annual meeting of the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology in Salt Lake City. The work-in-progress is optimized for conventional and stereotactic approaches to treating cancer. Trilogy is designed to deliver 3D conformal radiotherapy, intensity-modulated radiation therapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, fractionated stereotactic radiation therapy, and intensity-modulated radiosurgery for cancer and neurosurgical treatments. At its core is an enhanced version of Varian's 23EX Clinac linear accelerator capable of stereotactic applications that involve delivering higher doses of radiation to smaller areas over a shorter period of time.
