At the annual Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society conference Feb. 10, Fujifilm Medical Systems USA released a set of advanced Web administration tools for its Synapse PACS. The tools are designed to help users comply with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations. As part of Synapse Version 3.0, the enhancements will be commercially available in the spring 2003. Key attributes are logging and reporting, security-including timed system auto-logouts and automatic clearing of ID caches-and controls to manage and record user access to specific Synapse folders on the network.
