Varian readies dose calculator
The FDA has cleared a dose calculator for brachytherapy treatment planning. The BrachyVision Acuros product, cleared by the agency for use with Varian Medical Systems’ Eclipse treatment planning system, uses a proprietary method that calculates dose in three to eight minutes. THis compares with the hours it takes using the standard Monte Carlo method. The product, developed by Varian partner Transpire, will be on display July 26 to 30 at the annual meeting of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine in Anaheim, CA.
Mindray marches to market
Mindray Medical International is on track to launch between seven and nine products this year, according to a second-quarter update by the Chinese medical device manufacturer. The company has already released five new products in the first half of 2009. One, the DP-6900, is an upgraded premium portable black-and white ultrasound scanner.
PACSGEAR moves European office
PACS/IT maker PACSGear is relocating its European office to Munich’s high-tech campus, Neue Balan. The company had opened the office elsewhere in Munich less than a year ago. The environmentally friendly green architecture of the Neue Balan campus fits with the firm’s philosophy of eliminating paper from the healthcare process, according to PACSGear.
