Low Confidence in Radiology Reimbursement

Article

Radiology managers are still concerned about reimbursement, according to the latest Medical Imaging Confidence Index (MICI).

The quarterly MICI report surveys radiology managers/directors on how confident they are about certain aspects of their business. In the second quarter of 2015, 165 imaging directors/managers completed the survey. Their overall sentiment is “neutral.”

Levels of confidence are consistent with what the first quarter report found. Managers have high confidence and very high confidence that their facilities will grow monthly in diagnostic and interventional radiology, and internal operating and staff costs will remain constant, respectively. They also have high confidence that their facilities will maintain/grow as a profit center.

Managers feel neutral about having access to capital for imaging equipment and IT needs. The bleakest outlook is about receiving adequate reimbursement from Medicare for diagnostic and interventional imaging. Although this quarter’s score of 73 is better than last quarter, which scored 71.

Here are the full results for the second quarter of 2015.

Medical Imaging Confidence Index (MICI) was co-developed by AHRA: The Association for Medical Imaging Management and The MarkeTech Group, owner of the imagePRO panel, launched in 2008. MICI data rely on the feedback of a statistical cohort of respondents from the imagePRO panel that accurately represent the US market hospital market by bedsize and geographic areas.
