GE Medical Systems has completed its purchase of Surgical Insights. The Evanston, IL, company, which was founded in 1997, develops image-guided surgery (IGS) software applications for orthopedics designed to help surgeons perform orthopedic trauma and total joint surgery procedures. The acquisition, announced Feb. 15, follows news of GE's decision to acquire Visualization Technology, which offers a range of minimally invasive surgery solutions for orthopedic surgeons (SCAN 2/20/02). GE plans to integrate the orthopedic applications developed at Surgical Insights into the IGS platform developed by Visualization Technology after the acquisition of this company is completed.
