HBOC buys position in healthcare Internet firm

Healthcare information systems company HBO & Company has made a 5% equity investment in WebMD, an Atlanta-based provider of Internet services and technologies for healthcare professionals,

The two companies are also in discussions to make HBOC the exclusive provider of HIS networks for WebMD in the U.S., according to HBOC, which is also based in Atlanta. HBOC currently provides patient test results and health information library services to WebMD for use in that company's WebMD Internet sevice.
