Data Critical/Elixis merger extends wireless capabilities

Pursuing its goal of creating a wireless, Web-based clinical information system, Data Critical has agreed to buy Elixis, a privately held company that offers Web-based applications to access patient information and to automate repetitive tasks like coding and letter and prescription writing. Terms of the deal have yet to be disclosed.

This latest purchase closely follows Data Critical’s acquisition of Physix, a provider of mobile handheld workflow applications, for approximately $4.9 million in December 1999. Elixis will become part of a Data Critical subsidiary and will continue its existing distribution partnerships with Baxter Healthcare and Boston Scientific and its strategic alliances with drugstore.com, CVS.com, Physicians Online, MD Consult, and Healthstream.
